Mike & Molly star Melissa McCarthy & Fringe’s Joshua Jackson announced this year’s Emmy Nominees. Not only did McCarthy announce the nominations but she also nabbed one herself in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy category (after the nastiness of some TV comentators when Mike & Molly first aired I am thrilled to see that all the nay sayers are being proved wrong).
Not surprisingly Mad Men & Modern Family (2 of my favourite shows at the moment)
were heavily nominated with 19 and 17 nominations respectively. Mildred Place, starring Kate Winslet topped the nominations at 21! Winslet received a nomination for her performace as the title character in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie category.
My favourite nomination is that of Randee Heller in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series category. Who? you ask? Heller plays one of my favourite characters on Mad Men (I’d even go so far as saying one of my favourite ever TV characters). She is Don Draper’s (Jon Hamm, who incidently, is himself nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series) no nonsense, straight talking secretary Miss Blankenship.
Did you know that the Emmys have a category for Outstanding Voice Over Performance? I don’t know why but I find that amusing. Technically, the only artist in here that is voice over is Brenda Strong (Mary Alice, Desperate Housewives), the others voice animated characers.
The 63rd Emmys will be hosted by Jane Lynch on September 18.
Note to script writers: If Judd Apatow volunteers to help write the script don’t do an OSCARS on it – say yes!
