Everytime I hear that someone is thinking of making a new Wonder Woman I cringe. No-one could ever top Linda Carter! David E Kelley tried to bring Wonder Woman back to TV but NBC said no. As much as I think David E Kelley is a TV genius (he’s brought us shows such as Doogie Howser MD, Picket Fences, Ally McBeal, Boston Legal and Harry’s Law to name but a few) I’m glad NBC refused. His first mistake was changing Wonder Woman’s iconic outfit! Anyway, enough about that, as finally there is Wonder Woman news that makes me very happy …
Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (his much talked about film Drive, starring Ryan Gosling, will hit Irish cinemas in September) wants to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen and he wants the fabulous Christina Hendricks to play her!
Refn made his wish known to New York Magazine, saying “First of all, she’s an awesome actress. Second, she’s so beautiful and so sexy and such a powerhouse of a woman that Liv, my wife, said that’s the prototype of a real woman. She has everything a guy would want. And yet she’s everything a girl thinks is the right way to look. So for me, she’s the perfect choice.”
Refn also likes that Hendricks is closer to 40 than 30. “She’s mature, which I think Wonder Woman has to be, because it’s a very complex character. You know, the whole Wonder Woman concept is ‘What if women were more powerful than men?’ And I certainly can’t come up with a more ideal choice to play that, both consciously because she’s very smart but also because of her sensibility and her physicality … so for me, she’s the perfect choice because she has so much sensibility and sexuality, but it’s true sexuality. And she has a body to die for. I certainly don’t know anybody of both sexes who doesn’t find her extremely attractive.”
I agree with Refn. Hendricks would make a perfect Wonder Woman and the big screen would be perfect for her! Hollywood is in love with SuperHeroes at the moment but they all seem to be male. Time for a feisty woman to kick some butt! The only problem is no-one has given this the green light. Warner Bros, what are you waiting for? Please make this happen!
That’s Entertainment!
