And the winners are … The Emmys round up – Winners and Highlights

Modern Family was the big winner at the 63rd Emmy Awards, with it winning every category it was nominated in at Sunday’s ceremony, including Outstanding Comedy Series. It was a different story for the highly nominated Mad Men. It walked away with only one award, but it was the coveted Outstanding Drama Series.

Before the ceremony started, Emmys’ host Jane Lynch told E! that this year’s ceremony “will be different. There’s an epic opening & fabulous musical numbers.” The opening number was fun, my favourite bits involved Entourage’s “Lloyd” & “Ari” dancing, and the Mad Men piece. See below for the clip

As for the musucal numbers, the Emmytones (made up of actors Zachary Levi, Cobie Smulders, Taraji P. Henson, Kate Flannery, Wilmer Valderrama, and Joel McHale), who introduced each category in song, were very cheesy and annoying. As for the musical number which featured The Lonely Island, Michael Bolton & John Stamos, to name but a few, I rhink I mised the joke. Admittedly those who got  the joke enjoyed it.

The stand out presenters for me were Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel. Jane Lynch wasn’t bad but I just wish there were more of these funny guys! It was also good to see Ricky Gervais taking the piss out of his Golden Globes hosting in a pre-recorded video. It’s a pity Jane Lynch was so catty about it!

Charlie Sheen also made an appearance, presenting Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. At this time he had a message to Two and a Half Men, “From the bottom of my heart I wish you nothing but the best for this coming season. We spent 8 wonderful years together and I know you will continue to make great television”

Before I list the winners on the night, I can’t go on without mentioning the Emmys style. On the whole it was fabulous with red and gold being the colour of choice. There were some catastrophic choices of outfits but on the whole it was style personified! Mad Men may not have swept the pool at the ceremony but they did in the style stakes. My best dressed of the night goes to the Beautiful looking Christina Hendricks, and a HOT, suave Jon Hamm!

Outstanding Drama Series: Finally it’s MAD MEN!
It’s won this award for each of its 4 seasons
“We want to thank the fans of the show who support it wholeheartedly no matter where it goes. We all get to go to work tomorrow and that’s all we wanted to do. For us & our families that’s a dream come true”

Outstanding Comedy Series: MODERN FAMILY
Also won this award last year. Won in every category it was nominated in tonight
“We are so very honoured to be in this room. There were a lot of years where a lot of people on this stage had a lot of failed pilots so we appreciate every moment of this.”
“Modern Family was this close to being animated that’s how much we didn’t want to work with kids but these kids bring it every week.”
“On location a gay couple approached us & said ‘You’re not just making people laugh, you are making them more tolerant. And I thought to myself they are right, we are showing the world that there is nothing wrong with a relationship between an old man & a hot young woman, & looking around the room tonight I see that many of you agree”

And that’s a wrap. The Emmys were nothing ground breaking but everyone seemed genuinely thankful to be working. They know they are among the lucky ones who get to live out their dreams.” I’d love to see Jimmy Kimmel & Jimmy Fallon hosting next year

About The Bellissimo Files

Hi, I’m Sarina Bellissimo and this is the place I come to indulge in my love of all things entertainment. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t fascinated by all things Hollywood/showbiz. I blame my parents! As a child my mum used to force me to watch old Elvis Presley films with her, and both my mum & dad would take my brothers and I to the Drive-In to watch the latest films (this is where my love for ROCKY began!). When not watching movies, I was trying to figure out ways to pull the back off the TV so I could somehow get into it and be a part of all the action on the screen! This blog isn’t a place that revels in gossip and negativity. It’s a place where entertainment is celebrated. That said, this is a place you can turn to for honesty. Honesty and criticism don’t always mean attacks. I choose to criticise the piece of work but not the person and I acknowledge that just because I don’t like something, it doesn’t mean someone else won’t. Here you’ll find interviews with some of the biggest names in the world of Entertainment, reviews, breaking news and my very own musings. Away from The Bellissimo Files, you can find me on Spin 1038 on Saturdays, between 1pm and 3pm,presenting Plan B. There’s celebrity interviews, entertainment news, the low down on the must see movies and music releases of the week, the ultimate guide to what’s on where in the city, as well as masterclasses with experts on standby to answer listeners’ questions. I also appear on TV3’s “Elaine” panel, talk movies on “Ireland AM” and you can sometimes hear me filling in on Moncrieff’s “Movies and Booze “(Newstalk) The Bellissimo Files is constantly evolving. Files (topics) will be added or deleted as time goes on. Feel free to read, watch, comment, share, and make suggestions for what you would like to see on the site. Sarina
