The LEGEND that is Al Pacino is coming to Dublin! In the words of his Scent of A Woman character, Lt Col Frank Slade -“Whoo-ah!”
Oscar Winner Al Pacino will be in Dublin for the 2012 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, where the Irish Premiere of, what he refers to as his ‘most personal project ever”, Wilde Salmon, will take place.
According to the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, Wilde Salome, ” invites audiences into Pacino’s private world, as he explores the complexities of Oscar Wilde’s notorious 1891 play Salome, Wilde himself and the birth of a rising star, in actress Jessica Chastain.
The film offers an unprecedented behind the scenes look at Pacino’s odyssey. Pacino directs and also stars as King Herod in this compelling blend of footage from a documentary on Wilde’s life, scenes of a reading of the play in Los Angeles and a film version of the play.”
Speaking about the announcement, Festival Director Gráinne Humphreys said: “as a cinemagoer, I have long admired the ambition and range of Al Pacino’s film career, which has created such an indelible legacy on world cinema. A provocateur, an innovator and a consummate artist who has created some of the most iconic characters in movie history, he is also a film director driven by his personal passions. The festival is honoured to present the Irish premiere of Wilde Salome – a new film by one of the world’s greatest screen actors.”
The festival has been going from strength to strength each year. Over the years big names such as Quentin Tarantino, Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Daniel Day Lewis, U2, and Tilda Swinton, to name but a few, have presented their films at the festival. But now the biggest name of them all is coming – Mr Al Pacino! What a way to celebrate the 10th JDIFF. Congratulations to the JDIFF team! I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for the festival.
