Audrey Hepburn’s screen test for Roman Holiday has just hit the internet. This footage was filmed in Pinewood Studios on 15 September 1951.
Hepburn went on to win a Best Actress Oscar for her role as Princess Ann, the frustrated Princess who, while in Rome, rebels against the restraints of the monarchy by running away, and has a chance encounter with an American reporter, played by Gregory Peck. He gives her her first real taste of freedom, joy and love.
As you can see in the footage, Hepburn was grace, style, and class personified from the very beginning of her career. Hepburn went on to not only become a great actress and style icon, but also a great humanitarian – working very closely with Unicef right until her death in 1993.
