Daniel Radcliffe and Holliday Grainger announced the 2012 BAFTA Film nominations this morning.
It’s not surprising to see that The Artist is yet again leading the nominations at another Awards ceremony. The Artist is up for 12 awards, including Best Film, Best Actor for Jean Dujardin and Best Actress for Berenice Bejo
The BAFTAs have similar nominations to all of the other awards show except there is one film that has been overlooked by other Awards organisations but features prominently at the BAFTAs. That film is Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. It garnered 11 nominations, including Best Actor for Gary Oldham.
Other films to have featured heavily in today’s nominations are Hugo (9 nominations), My Week With Marilyn (6 nominations), and The Help and War Horse (both picked up 5 nominations.
The Irish are being represented at the BAFTAs by Michael Fassbender (Best Actor) and Chris O’Dowd (Rising Star).
While Brendan Gleeson missed out on a nomination for his performance in The Guard, John Michael McDonagh received a nomination for Best Original Screenplay
Rounding out the Best Actor category George Clooney and Brad Pitt also feature in the Best Actor category.
It’s not surprising to see Meryl Streep in the Best Actress category, for her performance of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. Joining Streep and Bejo in this category are Tilda Swinton, Michelle Williams and Viola Davis.
Stephen Fry will be hosting The BAFTA Awards on Sunday 12th February 2012, at the London Royal Opera House. BBC1 will broadcast the show.
