Everyone knows the story of Snow White but you’ve never seen an interpretation quite like this!
Snow White (Kristen Stewart) is thrown into a tower, after her evil step mother, Queen Ravena (Charlize Theron) kills her father and takes over the Kingdom. When Snow White escapes from the tower, she finds out that she not only has to save herself, but it is up to her to save the whole kingdom from Queen Ravena’s evil reign!
It is hard to believe that Snow White and the Huntsman is director’s Rupert Sanders debut feature. He has delivered one of the best fairy tale action films you will see.
While most of this film is dark in tone and in appearance, it is beautifully filmed and there are light hearted moments to balance the intense moments throughout the film.
There are many action scenes which never get boring as they all have a purpose. None are thrown in for gratuitous reasons and Sanders handles the one to one combat as well as the grand battle scenes with such ease.
The performances Sanders has elicited from his cast are outstanding. Charlize Theron is a stand out. Getting the evil balance right is often tricky for an actor. If Theron went too far with her wickedness it could have quickly turned camp, but she knew where that line was and she went all the way up to it but didn’t cross it. Her portrayal of Queen Ravena is wickedly evil, and it’s fun to see her utter those famous lines, “Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?”
The answer to that of course is Snow White. It’s great to see Kristen Stewart finally having the chance to show the world that she can act. There’s not one moany, annoying aspect to her character of Snow White. She is strong, fierce and noble, as well as being beautiful. One thing Stewart can’t seem to get away from though are love triangles. Just like in Twilight, in Snow White and the Hunstman, she is involved in another love triangle!
Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman is one of the men in that love triangle. His career is going from strength to strength and with each film he is cementing his leading man status!
While we are all familiar with the story of Snow White you will still be on the edge of your seat wondering what’s going to happen next. Snow White and the Huntsman is the perfect blockbuster to kick off the summer blockbuster season!
That’s Entertainment!
