Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel host Jimmy Kimmel and Scandal’s Kerry Washington were up early to read out the 2012 Emmy Award Nominees. Given the time of the announcement (5.45am LA time), Kimmel turned up in his PJs asking the audience, “This is a sex dream isn’t it? … They rousted me out of bed in the middle of the night last night” He went on to express what, no doubt all up at that time of the morning, were thinking, “This would be just as good at noon!”
Yet again Mad Men lead the nominations with 17, including nods for Best Drama, Jon Hamm for Best Actor in a Drama Series, Elisabeth Moss for Best Actress in a Drama Series and Christina Hendricks for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Suprisingly Downtown Abbey received 16 nominations.
Not surprisingly, Modern Family yet again dominated the comedy category. Glee almost dropped off the radar, only being nominated for one award and that’s not in the outstanding comedy category (the one nomination is for Dot Marie Jones – Guest Actress in a comedy series). Newcomers to the Outstanding comedy series category are Veep and Girls.
You’d be forgiven for thinking you might be reading out an Oscar list with the amount of film stars garnering nominations. Films stars with emmy nominations include Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, Julieanne Moore, Nicole Kidman, Kevin Costner, Emma Thompson, Woody Harrelson, Clive Owen, Bill Paxton (mostly nominated in the mini-series category).
Reading the nominations isn’t the end of the Emmy association for Kimmel. As well as Jimmy Kimmel Live being nominated in the Outstanding Variety Series category, he will be hosting the award show (taking over from last year’s host Jany Lynch). If this morning’s announcement is anything to go by, this award show should be fun!
