So last week Melissa George seemed happy to cringe and joke about her time on Home and Away with Jonathan Ross on his talk show.
Fast forward a week and put her on the other side of the world, in her home country, and things are very different! Melissa was booked in to chat about her new film Felony, her new show Hunted and McHappy Day.her new show on channel 7’s (the same channel that airs Home and Away in Australia) The Morning Show with Kylie Gilles and Larry Emdur. She allegedly threatened to walk off set if they dared to bring up Angel (the character she played on Home and Away and launched her career).
According to an insider who spoke to heraldsun.com.au ‘”She kept saying she’s had so many bigger roles since Home And Away that it was offensive to talk about it – she even said she’d send Seven an invoice because she inadvertently promotes it through the media.” The program’s executive producer Sarah Stinson, said she originally thought the meltdown was a prank.’
Melissa took to Twitter (@TheMGeorge) to respond to all the backlash she is receiving: “It’s 20 years ago. I always embrace the past, am used to being mis quoted, and love my fans, but the tall poppy syndrome is pushing us away… Again, it’s not about mentioning the past, it’s about ONLY mentioning the past. Like we failed and did SO badly for the past 20 years.”
This is the chat she eventually had with Kylie and Larry on The Morning Show
I know it’s almost 20 years ago, but Australia is proud of how far she has come, no-one is trying to knock her down. Melissa should look to the way Kylie deals with this. I am sure it gets annoying to constantly talk about the past, but without it, she wouldn’t be where she is now!
