I know I am late to the party with this, but I only got around to watching Neil Patrick Harris’ Tony Awards opener and now I understand what all the fuss has been about!
Harris and the Tony awards have shown everyone how an opening number should be done.
It was fun, spectacular, relevant, able to laugh at itself and all the while still able to capture the magic that is entertainment (and in this case the theatre) – the fact that there was a fabulous dancing, singing cameo from Mike Tyson was the cherry on top. “Go Neil, Go!”
By the way, the big winner of the night (besides the actual awards ceremony for getting Harris as it’s host) was Kinky Boots – taking out the best musical title (the musical is based on a British film about a drag queen who saves a shoe factory) as well as 5 other awards.
Want to know who else won, well then check out the closing number. While the closing wasn’t as big as the opening number, it was still genius. Harris was joined on stage by Broadway legend Aura McDonald and they recapped the 2013 Tony winners to the melody of Jay Z/Alicia Key’s New York. Love it!
Bravo Neil Patrick Harris and the Tony Awards organisers. You not only managed to entertain but you also reinvigorated passion for the theatre!
Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences what are you waiting for – give Neil a call, he is the Oscar host you have been looking for! He is the quadruple threat, he can sing act, dance, and everyone loves him!
I’m Sarina Bellissimo and this is the place I come to indulge in my love of all things entertainment. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t fascinated by all things Hollywood/showbiz. I blame my parents!
As a child my mum used to force me to watch old Elvis Presley films with her, and both my mum & dad would take my brothers and I to the Drive-In to watch the latest films (this is where my love for ROCKY began!). When not watching movies, I was trying to figure out ways to pull the back off the TV so I could somehow get into it and be a part of all the action on the screen!
This blog isn’t a place that revels in gossip and negativity. It’s a place where entertainment is celebrated. That said, this is a place you can turn to for honesty. Honesty and criticism don’t always mean attacks. I choose to criticise the piece of work but not the person and I acknowledge that just because I don’t like something, it doesn’t mean someone else won’t.
Here you’ll find interviews with some of the biggest names in the world of Entertainment, reviews, breaking news and my very own musings.
