Sony Pictures Entertainment have confirmed that there will be a 24th Bond film and that after the success of Skyfall (which took in $1.1 billion worldwide, set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK, and it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray), they are not changing the team.
Fans will be happy to hear that Daniel Craig will be back as 007, the legendary British secret agent, and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the next adventure, written by John Logan.
In a statement, Mendes said, “I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time.”
No other information has been released about the supporting cast, story line or title yet. I am watching with interest as it is going to be hard to to replace Judi Dench’s M and Javier Bardem’s nasty villain, Silva.
Here’s what Mendes and Craig delivered on their last outing. If the next Bond film is half as good as Skyfall, we’re all in for a great ride!
The 24th Bond film will hit Irish and UK theatres on 23 October 2015 and the US on 6 November 2015.
