A short clip of George Clooney’s Downton Abbey “Text Santa” sketch was premiered last night, during Phillip Schofield’s marathon presenting session, Text Santa 24 (he is presenting and appearing in many different ITV shows for 24 hours. He is doing an amazing job and proves that a great presenter is someone who is natural – the same off screen as on).
You can see the full sketch during the ITV, December 19, broadcast of “Text Santa”. “Text Santa” is an annual fundraiser that raises money for U.K. charities during the Christmas period.
This got me thinking, Christmas really is the time of giving and there are many different ways we can do this. Presents to friends and family; Spending time with important people in our lives; donating time and money to charities;
Below are a few of the local charities that could use your help this season (and beyond).
St Vincent’s De Paul
This Christmas SVP will assist 140,000 families with necessities such as food, fuel and basic clothing.
Any donation will be of great support. Visit http://www.svp.ie
Barnados Christmas Toy Appeal
Not every child will have a gift to open this Christmas. You can change that by adding a child to your Christmas list as part of the Barnados Christmas Toy Appeal.
Barnados have some toy ideas and instructions on how you can pass on your gift at their website
Novas Initiatives Toy Appeal
Novas Initiatives are a non-profit organisation working with single adults, families and children who are disadvantaged and socially excluded; primarily those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. They offer bespoke, client-centred services, based on empirical evidence of more than a decade’s experience of working with people who are homeless in Ireland.
This Christmas they are asking for assistance in providing children with a present to open on Christmas day. For more information click here
Focus Ireland Christmas Appeal
It’s a very frightening statistic, so far this year 800 children and their families have become homeless.
You can help Focus Ireland in their endeavour to end homeless by donating here https://www.focusireland.ie/
