Colin Farrell Shares Why He Loves That He Gets To Live in A World Of Make Believe

Colin Farrell stars as Holt Farrier in Disney’s reimagining of one of it’s classic films, Dumbo.

Colin is in Dublin for the Irish premiere of the film. I got to chat to him about how he feels when he sees himself on the big screen. While he may not appreciate watching himself, he does love that he gets to live a world of make believe.

World of Make Believe

“For me that’s one of the most beautiful things about what I get to do for a living. I think for many of us as adults and I’ve certainly fallen a foul of this many times over the years – the imagination shuts down. The wonder of life departs, and it departs by the virtue of being shown the door by the responsibilities we acquire, and the burdens of certain things and the pressures, and one of the most beautiful things I have been able to do over the past twenty five years or so, is that it has kept my impagination alive, it’s kept a certain playfulness alive. It’s allowed my spirit to have that kind of degree of flight that not many adults experience on a day to day and I get paid for it. And never was that more front and centre than it was on this film.” Colin said

Living in the Spotlight

Colin loves what he gets to call a job but doesn’t enjoy the frenzy that sometimes comes with it. He gets why it’s there but chooses not to court it.

Parenthood

In the movie, Eva Green’s character, Collette, says, “Your children don’t need you to be perfect. They just need you to believe in them.” Parenthood can be tough and Colin said he is learning as her goes and just tries to let his kids be the best version of themselves, with a little guidance from him.

Secret to his success.

Colin has been in the business for over 25 years – what is the secret to his success? “I don’t know. Chance, luck, I mean it’s so out of my control. You know, you work as hard as you can when you go to work but there’s so many factors at play. There’s so many different energies that have to come together to make a film, not even work, but to just make it exist. I mean I am still working 25 years later … I am not going to say that I haven’t been found out yet, I think I have been found out a few of times but I have been let back to the scene of the crime.” Colin joked.

Dumbo hits Irish cinemas on Friday 29th March, 2019.

About The Bellissimo Files

Hi, I’m Sarina Bellissimo and this is the place I come to indulge in my love of all things entertainment. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t fascinated by all things Hollywood/showbiz. I blame my parents! As a child my mum used to force me to watch old Elvis Presley films with her, and both my mum & dad would take my brothers and I to the Drive-In to watch the latest films (this is where my love for ROCKY began!). When not watching movies, I was trying to figure out ways to pull the back off the TV so I could somehow get into it and be a part of all the action on the screen! This blog isn’t a place that revels in gossip and negativity. It’s a place where entertainment is celebrated. That said, this is a place you can turn to for honesty. Honesty and criticism don’t always mean attacks. I choose to criticise the piece of work but not the person and I acknowledge that just because I don’t like something, it doesn’t mean someone else won’t. Here you’ll find interviews with some of the biggest names in the world of Entertainment, reviews, breaking news and my very own musings. Away from The Bellissimo Files, you can find me on Spin 1038 on Saturdays, between 1pm and 3pm,presenting Plan B. There’s celebrity interviews, entertainment news, the low down on the must see movies and music releases of the week, the ultimate guide to what’s on where in the city, as well as masterclasses with experts on standby to answer listeners’ questions. I also appear on TV3’s “Elaine” panel, talk movies on “Ireland AM” and you can sometimes hear me filling in on Moncrieff’s “Movies and Booze “(Newstalk) The Bellissimo Files is constantly evolving. Files (topics) will be added or deleted as time goes on. Feel free to read, watch, comment, share, and make suggestions for what you would like to see on the site. Sarina
