The Sapphires is film about 4 talented Aboriginal women, living in 1960’s outback Australia, who dream of taking the world by storm with their singing abilities.
When it comes to The Sapphires, art has imitated life, and life has imitated art. This small Australian film has done much better than anyone ever dreamed it would – resonating with audiences all over the world.
Recently the film’s cast was in Dublin for the Irish premiere. I caught up with Deborah Mailman (Gail), Jessica Mauboy (Julie), Miranda Tapsell (Cynthia) and Shari Sebbens (Kay), to talk about what working on this gem of a film was like, working with Chris O’Dowd, the worldwide reaction, their struggles in the entertainment industry, and their hopes for the future.
The Sapphires hits Irish cinemas on Wednesday 7th November.
